Living with mines
Since the definitive removal of landmines typically takes a considerable amount of time, it is of utmost importance to mark existing minefields and to sensitise the local population.
Many people return to their homeland as refugees after a war, Timka Opardija among them. In order to speed up and coordinate the reconstruction of her town of Donji Vakuf, she founded the Anima Women’s Group, which has helped us in our quest to inform children, young people and adults alike about the danger of mines.
Risk education programmes are usually organised in parallel with demining activitites and are adapted to the cultural and social realities of a context.
